NHS Dentistry is dead

By Members

The following is for entertainment purposes only. Any “advice” enclosed is the delusional ranting of a deranged mind.

I have only recently come to this conclusion. It’s always been in a bad state but was held together with the “duct tape and safety pins” of dentists doing their best in a bad system.

But those days are over.

It is dead, finished, kaput, it has ceased to be etc etc. There is no option now but for EVERY self-employed contractor who works in the NHS system to make plans and leave the NHS. Staying in, even for your pension, is a fool’s errand. Why do I say this?

We have a problem….

By Members

There probably isn’t a person I know who doesn’t see the problem
There probably isn’t a person I know who doesn’t think the problem needs to be fixed
There probably isn’t a person I know who doesn’t, at some level, know how to fix the problem

And yet the problem still remains. It is endemic, ingrained and corrosive. it eats at the very fabric of your being and creates a sea of indignation and bad feeling.

It’s all Sh*t…

By Members

That is a common reaction when looking at the world around us I am sure you will agree. But is it really all sh*t?

Yes, I know there are a host of reasons to feel dismayed about the world. Trump, Brexit, the Tories, homelessness, Rocketman, Global Warming/Cooling, the price of fish, terrorism, traffic jams, the GDC, the CQC, the lawyers and the price of indemnity all bear down on you like a great weight.
And if that’s all you focus on then I agree, life is pretty shit.

SO DON’T FOCUS ON THAT

Respect

By Members

The days of Sir Lancelot Sprat are over. No longer can the various professions Lord over patients and staff alike as if they were God’s. Those days are gone, and most of the dinosaurs that demanded this level of respect have moved on.

Respect will no longer be given automatically. It now has to be earned. And when you think about it, that is exactly how it should be. Just because you have a BDS behind your name, doesn’t mean you are better than anyone else.

The worlds best Neurosurgeon isn’t better than you because he can manipulate the little grey cells……he is just better at Neurosurgery.

There is a sickness….

By Members

There is a sickness in this country.

It is the disease of the sales prevention officer. They lurk deep within the bowels of every large business, burrowing away at the foundations, causing discord and unrest.

Some of them don’t even realise how bad they are at the job they do, and they go undetected by the management structure that is almost as bad as they are.

Thoughts on indemnity…

By Members

A week doesn’t go by without some story on Social media about how someone has been dropped by their indemnifier. Perhaps even worse are those who, on renewal find a 0 has been added onto the back of what their present indemnifier expect them to pay.

This cannot continue. It is almost as if some of the indemnifiers are removing themselves from the game by making their business deliberately non-viable. I think one of the big three at least is actively extracting themselves from the dental market

One also wonders what happens to those who have been dropped by the discretionary and event-based indemnifiers should a claim arise.

How to thrive

By Members

Many people think it is difficult to be successful as a dentist in today’s world. Many people think one needs to do short term ortho, place implants, have a cadcam machine and have a coffee dispenser in reception. They think they need to spend thousands on marketing and websites.

They are wrong. There’s nothing wrong with all that, BUT, you don’t need it to be successful.

To be successful you must first define what you mean by the word success.

Be part of the solution

By Members

I went to the doctor today, although that was what the building labels itself as on NHS Choices. It’s a custom built building, surrounded by an imposing metal fence that only allows one access point. In essence, it is almost zombie proof, and the fun had only just started.

Passing the mandatory smoker outside the attached pharmacy, I entered the hallowed seat of medicine to meet the first demon of the day…the automated check-in machine. It lurks there, in the corner, ready to catch out the unwary and the mistrustful. Had I actually logged myself in, I thought after tapping the germ-ridden screen?

They don’t care about you

By Members

The following is for entertainment purposes only. It is not to be considered as advice of any kind. probably because I’m wrong more times than I’m right :)

They being the politicians you foolishly vote in every couple of years.
They being the “criminal class” who are systematically and methodically taking anything good about this country and tearing it asunder
They being the ones that technically aren’t to blame in the grand scheme of things because it is us the Great British Public who let them get away with it

Oh, I’m sure you will find the odd good one in the mix, but most of them care only for themselves and their own agendas. Sociopaths, fraudsters, incompetents and egomaniacs dwell within the hallowed halls of Westminster. And you all put them there.

Paranoia

By Members

Do you ever get the feeling that they are out to get you?

Well, perhaps they are.

Now we aren’t talking about the kind of secret government organisations that the epic conspiracy theorist Alex Jones says fly around in stealthy black helicopters. That kind of thing ranks up there with David Icke’s Blood drinking, shape-shifting, 12 foot, pan-dimensional space lizards.

But….

The Message of Dental health

By Members

I’m going to lay some opinions on you. They are my opinions, based on 21 years of treating patients and several years of teaching students. It’s based on what I see around me, what I see dentists complaining about time and again. My opinions are thus biased, inflammatory and to some people insulting.

If it’s the latter remember I can only insult you if you give me permission.

Also if you take a generic comment and apply it to your unique situation…then perhaps you might consider reviewing your approach.

The rules have changed

By Members

Warning – the following is filled with flawed opinions and biased viewpoints.

The perception that dentists are all wealthy and drive flash cars is no longer valid…and yet the public still clings to it as if it was the truth. There are still some uber-wealthy general dentists around, but the days when you could stick a dental chair in a room and make large amounts of cash are long since over.
