Optimistic pessimism

By Members, Newsletters

I’ve been listening to Tony Robbins a lot recently because I’ve been going through some stuff in my head and I needed a positive filter for it.  And there is nothing more positive than Robbins. And if you apply the lessons that he and others teach, it can make a valuable difference to the way your life pans out.

“It is in your moment of decision that your destiny is shaped” – Robbins

You want respect?

By Members, Newsletters

They say you should respect your elders.  I disagree.  I say you should look at what the elder has achieved in life before they earn your respect.  After all Jimmy Saville and Cyril Smith, I’m sure you will agree, don’t deserve respect.

And it’s the same with so called professionals.  You want respect, well what are you doing to earn that respect?  Do you engage in any of the following activities?

Don’t p*ss down my back……….

By Members, Newsletters

Watching the highlights of the election debate, I couldn’t help but think of the old saying, “Don’t p*ss down my back and tell me it’s raining”.

I have never, in all my days seen such a sad collection of contemptible, obnoxious and incompetent cretins as I did on that program.  A motley collection of socialists, communists, elitists and some bloke masquerading as the second coming.

This is your last chance

Let me tell you what I believe.  I believe that the mistakes of mankind replay themselves over and over again.  We elect people in out “democracy” in the belief that that they will do our bidding…… but they rarely do.  And when they do, it is only due to massive sustained public outcry.

That’s why a million people marching in London against in illegal war did nothing…….. because the people went home and the politicians knew that.

Your life in their hands

By Members, Newsletters

No, I’m not talking about surgeons.  I’m talking about pen pushers.

And before we start, I give you fair warning.  I’m not holding back on this one.  This is meant for entertainment purposes only.  Sad that we now live in a world where I have to write that, but at least I am still able to write what follows.

There are two kinds of Dental Practices

By Members, Newsletters

Please note, this post is for entertainment purposes only!

The practice that runs itself and the practice that runs the dentist. As you can imagine, the former is preferable, but even in such Nirvana, time can be taken away from patients to deal with the mosquitoes of life

Usually mosquitoes bearing clip boards working for 3 letter acronyms.

Do you have a big enough WHY?

By Members, Newsletters

“I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there’s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there’s no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV’s while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that’s the way it’s supposed to be. We know things are bad – worse than bad. They’re crazy. It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don’t go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, ‘Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone.’ Well, I’m not gonna leave you alone.” – Howard Beale

3 years and out

By Members, Newsletters

In 2006 I worked as a clinical tutor at the local dental hospital, something I am again doing.  However, in those 8 years, things have changed markedly.  There is now a whole host of bureaucracy to deal with, emails to human resources, occupational health etc.  I now have to be screened to make sure I’m not a terrorist or a child molester and have to undergo a 4-day induction.  It’s enough to make your head spin.  I’ll not even mention what the staff who work there full time have to deal with.

Principle 8: Raise concerns if patients are at risk

By Members, Newsletters

This one is a bit of a grind.  There is a thread on Facebook about a well known dental corporate, the litigation potential finds my brain forgetting which one.  But basically the majority of the dentists on that thread, who were whining and complaining about stuff that they shouldn’t be having to complain about are in breach of this Standard.  This is the “your boss/staff are misbehaving and you haven’t told us???” Standard.  Be warned

Principle 7: Maintain, develop and work within your professional knowledge and skills

The following is to be used for entertainment purposes only

Now this one should be interesting.  By the way, just reading my rantings isn’t enough, you have to act on them, and you have to act on them now.  because you will be judged against these standards.  The products at my website www.gdpresources.co.uk can help with some of this, but much of it is based on your ethics and how you interpret the vagueness that is inherent in the standards.  Some would say this vagueness is deliberate so they can “get you if they want to”, but I of course could not possibly comment.
